Center for Space Object and Debris Research
Center For Space Object and Debris Observation and Research, originally named " Center of the Satellite Observation and Research ", was founded in 1957 and affiliated to the Purple Mountain Observatory. At it’s height, there are more than 20 observation stations distributed across the country. With the development of the aerospace industry , the center has made an indelible contribution for the national space security, from the orbit prediction software of the first chinese artificial satellite to the space debris monitoring and early warning for "Shenzhou 6" spacecraft. From 1978 to 2008, Center for Space Object and Debris Observation and Research has got a total of 35 Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards. And now the Center is made up of a management and data processing center, 7 observation stations, 9 observation equipments and a dedicated data communication networks.
The purpose of the Center is as follows: according to the national strategic demands , organize the strength in the space object and debris monitoring and reserach effectively.Take a positive commitment to the state's major tasks, carry out the assuming actively major tasks of the state , carry out the study of satellite dynamics and its application continually and strive to make original results. Develop application technologies actively, such as the space object and debris detection and identification, and ultimately make the center an important observation and research base for space object and debris monitoring in China .
