High energy time-domain astronomy

The High-Energy Time-Domain Astronomy Research Group of the Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO), Chinese Academy of Sciences, was established in November 2015. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), the Group actively participates in and makes full use of various ground-based and space-borne observational facilities at PMO, as well as those domestic and international ones. Focusing on fundamental and cutting-edge scientific issues in fields such as high-energy time-domain astronomy and relativistic fundamental astronomy, the Group conducts multi-wavelength collaborative observations and scientific research spanning radio (e.g., FAST and its core array, SKA1, Parkes, ASKAP), optical (e.g., AST3, WFST, MASTA, 4.2-meter telescope), and high-energy bands (e.g., EP, SVOM satellites). It has mastered the full-chain research methodologies covering observation, data processing, theoretical modeling, and numerical simulation, and applies machine learning and artificial intelligence in its research. The Group continuously achieves original scientific results in areas including: electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave events (GWE), gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), fast radio bursts (FRBs), supernovae (SN), and other high-energy transients, as well as their applications in cosmology and fundamental physics; high-precision time and frequency transfer; post-Newtonian celestial mechanics; and relativistic light propagation in black hole-pulsar systems. It has developed into a distinctive research team with competitiveness both at home and abroad.
