Abstract: Astronomical optical telescopes and instruments have been developed in China since 1950s. Although the history is not long, the process of development has experienced the stages from nothing to existence, from small to large, from single to various kinds of optical observation facilities. The economic growth of China in the past 40 years has created a good opportunity for Chinese astronomical community to develop the astronomical optical observation facilities. In this report, the development of optical telescopes and instruments of China in the past 60 years will be reviewed briefly, and the projects of telescopes under construction and in the proposals will be introduced, as well as the large optical infrared telescopes and new technologies in progress and in preparation.
