  • The Annual Progress Seminar of Terahertz Superconducting Array Imaging System - A Major National Project on The Development of Research Equipment, was held at PMO
    Author: Update time: 2013-03-14

On March 1st, 2013, the annual progress seminar of Terahertz superconducting array imaging system - a major national project on the development of research equipment, was held at the Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The major national project on the development of research equipment, Terahertz superconducting array imaging system, presided by the Purple Mountain Observatory, lasts from January 2012 to December 2016. In this project, we aim to develop a Terahertz Superconducting Imaging Array (TeSIA), which reaches the sensitivity limit of background in observation from the ground, as the terminal of the New-generation stem observing equipment, in order to back up the "Chuanshi" database for the purpose of terahertz / far-infrared-band study of planets, stars, galaxies and cosmology. In addition, the results of this research project can be applied to the rapid imaging detection of other areas in Terahertz applications.

The Expert Group members who have attended the meeting included executive deputy director Ji Peiwen from the Science and Mathematics Faculty of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Director Dong Guoxuan from the Astronomy Division, Academician Zhang Ze from Zhejiang University, Researcher Lu Wei from the Institute of Technical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Researcher Yan Yihua from the National Astronomical Observatories, etc.

The experts have raised questions about project progress, implementation process and achievements, had a full discussion with the project team and also paid visits to laboratories. Finally, Ji Peiwen made a summary of the conference on behalf of the Expert Group. He fully endorsed the progress achieved by the project team in the year 2012 and suggested a strengthening in data management, in risk assessment of science research and a coordinating in funding arrangements.

The experts attending the meeting also included the Deputy Director Xie Huanying from Project Division of NSFC, Director Zhang Shouzhu, Researcher Ni Peigen, Researcher Liu Qingzhong from the Science and Mathematics Faculty, Deputy Director Xue Yanjie from the Astronomical Mechanics and Space Science Division of Institute of Basic Science, project team members from the Purple Mountain Observatory and other staff members.
