A potensional new formation mechanism for short-period earth-like planets in the late stage of planet formation though a collision-merger scenario was found by Prof. JI Jianghui, Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which will be published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters (727: L5, 2011 January 20).
