The 12th Representative Congress of Chinese Astronomical Society was held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on November 4, 2010.

The congress attracted more than 122 representatives, more than two-thirds of the society’stotal member. ZHAO Gang, chairman of the society’s 11th board of directors, addressed the opening ceremony by summarizing major astronomical achievements obtained by the society and looking ahead to the future astronomical development ofChina.

LI Xiangdong, secretary-general of the board, delivered work and financial reports of the society. And WANG Na, standing director of the 11th board, made a report on the revision of the board’s constitution, followed by a heated discussion from the representatives.

The congress elected 53 new standing directors for the 12th board of directors of the society, among whom academician CUI Xiangqun was elected as the chairman of the board and Prof. YANG Jian as secretary-general.

An awarding ceremony was held at the congress to issue certificates to 134 representatives that have made great contributions to the astronomy of China.
