  • An asteroid discovered by PMO was named with 'Aokeda Star'

       The 10th anniversary celebration of MUST (Macao University of Science and Technology) was held on Mar. 27, 2010.The naming ceremony of Aokeda Star was the first procedure of the celebration. Ji YANG, the deputy (executive) director of Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO), and Yaowen JIANG, the vice-director, were invited to attend this ceremony.
     The Aokeda Star was first discovered by Near-earth Celestial Object Telescope in Xuyi observation station, PMO on May 19, 2007. Its period of revolution is 5.67 years, which has been certified by LPL (University of Arizona), Palma Observatory, Catalina Observatory, and etc. In Nov. 2008, it was awarded the international permanent ID of No.200003 by the Minor Planet Center (MPC)
     In the naming ceremony, Ji YANG issued the certification and plaque to MUST, and made a speech. Aoao XU, the president of MUST, said, 'the naming of Aokeda Star is the acknowledgment to the ten years development of MUST!' Chui Sai On, the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, expected that MUST will achieve further development, and be shining just as the Aokeda Star.
