| The GRB observing program of the H.E.S.S. phase II telescope array |

| Seminar Title | The GRB observing program of the H.E.S.S. phase II telescope array | | | | | Speaker: | Dr. Thomas Tam | | | | | Affiliation: | (Sun yat-sen university institute of astronomy and space science) | | | | | When: | Wednesday afternoon , June 10, 16:00 p.m | | | | | Where: | ( No.502 Lecture Hall, Astronomy Building, Nanjing University xianlin campus,) | | | | | Welcome to Attend | | | | | ( PMO Academic Committee & Academic Circulating committee) | | | Abstract It has long been predicted that gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) can emit gamma-rays up to 100 GeV or above. >10 GeV photons have been seen from a small but significant population of bright GRBs, including the remarkable GRB 130427A. However, observations by the space-borne Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) at these very-high energies are limited by its relatively small collection area, marking the origin of very-high energy gamma-rays from GRBs uncertain. In contrast, ground-based Cherenkov arrays have much larger collection area. The H.E.S.S. experiment has now entered its second phase by the addition of a fifth telescope of 600 m2 mirror area at the centre of the array. This new telescope lowers the array energy threshold from ~100 GeV to tens of GeV. The status of the H.E.S.S. (phase II) GRB observing program including the technical optimization for quick re-pointings is described. |
