| Abstract It has long been predicted that gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) can emit gamma-rays up to 100 GeV or above. >10 GeV photons have been seen from a small but significant population of bright GRBs, including the remarkable GRB 130427A. However, observations by the space-borne Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) at these very-high energies are limited by its relatively small collection area, marking the origin of very-high energy gamma-rays from GRBs uncertain. In contrast, ground-based Cherenkov arrays have much larger collection area. The H.E.S.S. experiment has now entered its second phase by the addition of a fifth telescope of 600 m2 mirror area at the centre of the array. This new telescope lowers the array energy threshold from ~100 GeV to tens of GeV. The status of the H.E.S.S. (phase II) GRB observing program including the technical optimization for quick re-pointings is described. |
