        Abstract

The Apollo-type near-Earth asteroid (4179) Toutatis was originally discovered in 1934 and remained a lost asteroid until it was once again detected in 1989 in Caussols, France. From a dynamical viewpoint, the asteroid moves on an approximately 4:1 resonant orbit at a large eccentricity with the Earth and has passed through a close encounter with the Earth every four years since 1992. On 13 Dec 2012, 4179 Toutatis was closely observed by Chang'e-2 which is a second Chinese lunar probe dedicated to the Moon's exploration at a distance of 1.3 km during the outbound flyby. A sequence of high-resolution images was acquired during the mission. Pre-researches as orbit determination, imaging strategies for the mission and new results from the mission will be introduced.
