    Abstract
The dense cool molecular gas which forms stars provides aninnumerable quantity of avenues to explore the Universe. This talk addresses the detection of a large number of previously unknown maser lines, the derivation of densities, kinetic temperatures, and isotope ratios in extragalactic systems, the determination of fundamental physical quantities at intermediate and high redshifts, and first ALMA data from Cycle 1.
