Abstract
Electromagnetic radiation from galaxies reflects intrinsic properties of stars and dust, and also contains information about the interaction between them. Dust grains in galaxies obsure stellar emission with distorting spectral energy distributions of stellar populations, in particular for UV starlight; at the same time, stellar emission heats interstellar dust grains to yield thermal continuum emission at IR wavelength bands. The combination of UV and IR observations offers comprehensive insigts into correcting dust attenuation and recovering intrinsic stellar population properties. The so-called "IRX-UV relation" is a prevalent recipe of this kind in current extragalactic astronomy. In this talk, I will present my work focusing on the IRX-UV relation through spatially resolved studies of nearby galaxies, aimed at disclosing respective impacts of stellar population age and dust attenuation law on this relation, and therefore better understanding observed UV and IR properties of galaxies.
