     abstract

In recent years, we have developed a series of self-similar general polytropic hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) models in the context of star-forming molecular clouds (Lou & Gao 2006; Gao, Lou & Wu 2009; Gao & Lou 2010). This theoretical  formulation can be adapted to various situations. In a combined manner, we use observational data of various molecular line profiles, millimeter and  sub-millimeter radio continuum profiles, and mass density profiles inferred from dust extinctions to constrain dynamic shock cloud model. We point out inconsistency in earlier model analysis and provide sample cloud models to explain blue and red asymmetric molecular line profiles (with spatial resolutions) together with other available observational constraints.
