  • Research of molecular gas in the Milky Way

Established at the end of 2015, our research group is in the Department of Antarctic astronomy and radio astronomy at the Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO), and is served in one of the major breakthroughs of the PMO, “China Antarctic Observatory”. Based on large-scale and multi-wavelength surveys, the main work of the group is to systematically studyinterstellar gas in the Milky Way. At the same time, in cooperation with other groups at the PMO, we will jointly promote the construction of (sub-)-millimeter observing equipment in China.

Research contents: (1) the gas distribution and structure of the Milky Way; (2) The dynamics and chemical evolution of giant molecular clouds; (3) The statistical properties of molecular cloud cores; (4) The interaction between interstellar gas andstellar feedbacks (supernova remnant, HII region, stellar wind); and (5) The initial stage of (massive) star formation.

The group currently has four staffs:Xuepeng Chen (Principal Researcher), Yang Su (Associate Researcher), Yan Sun (Associate Researcher), and Chen Wang (Assistant Researcher). There are several PhD/Master students working together with us. More graduate students are welcome to apply for our group. Please contact XuepengChen (xpchen@pmo.ac.cn) for more information.
