A Pair of CMEs

Two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) erupted from the Sun over a ten-hour period (Aug. 5-6, 2013) as observed by a combination of two instruments on board the STEREO Behind spacecraft. The green, central image shows the Sun in extreme UV light. This image was superimposed on one from the COR1 coronagraph, in which a disk covers the Sun so that faint structures beyond it can be observed (in blue). The CMEs are the two bright clouds of particles heading off to the upper right, immediately followed by a CME to the lower left.
