  • Frontiers of Cosmology at Dome A Antarctica (Beijing/Suzhou)

The meeting of “Frontiers of Cosmology at Dome A Antarctica” was held in Beijing and Suzhou in July 18-23, 2009.

This workshop brought together interested parties to discuss next generation experiments that aimed to resolve the most fundamental questions of modern cosmology. We forged a long lasting collaboration among the participants from China, USA and Australia. We were particularly interested in building up Dome A, Antarctica as an astronomical observatory. NIR and sub-mm would be of particular importance for these efforts.

Based on the recent research, the highest point on the Antarctic plateau, Dome A, is probably the ultimate observing site on the earth. The advantages are expected to be particularly strong in the infrared/sub-millimeter part of the spectrum, where the high altitude and low water vapor content can be expected to offer unparalleled transmission.

There is little doubt that international collaboration will play a significant role in developing the scientific cases at Dome A, Antarctica, which is especially important in identifying science programs that takes advantages of cutting edge technologies from different countries. This would make an observatory at Dome A a milestone in our endeavor of understanding the universe and ourselves. This workshop plans to bring together interested parties to discuss next generation experiments that aim to resolve the most fundamental questions of modern cosmology. We hope to forge a long lasting collaboration among the participants. We are particularly interested in building up Dome A, Antarctica as an astronomical observatory. NIR and sub-mm will be of particular importance for these efforts.
